Please feel free to use any of the
information contained herein these pages and you may freely use it in other
pages or articles provided all due credit is given. The data and graphs remain
the copyright of myself.
I started this page
about a year ago and am still building it. Please remember to use the refresh
button.
I should appreciate any comments or feedback -
I have set these pages up so that the contents of my diaries , which go back
to at least 1980, may benefit those of you that are interested in propagation
for its own sake or as an aid to DXing. DXing on any band, but particularly on
50 and 144 MHz can be likened to the art of Fishing.
The art of Fishing requires
that you should know what Fish you wish to catch. This requires a knowledge of
the type of water it resides in , the time of year best to catch it, the time
of day best suited, the best bait to use , the type of equipment and even
the weather, and last but not least your skill and even at times luck!
DXing isn't that much
different. You need to know which Country your after. This requires a knowledge
of who is there, the frequencies they prefer to use, the best time of the year
to look for them, the best time of day, the mode they prefer to use , a good
station, and, if involved, what part of the solar cycle is involved and
last but not least your skill or even at times Luck!!
The data contained in my diaries is from my own observations conducted
throughout most of the year from various locations within the County of
Somerset and the old Avon, and also , when I was unable to observe , I have
used some small amounts of data from friends and colleagues within the area
bounded by the south of IO81, IO91, the west of IO70 and the east of IO90
roughly about 100Kms around me. It is quite clear that different conditions
apply particularly the further north you are and more so if he propagation is F
layer related. The times stated are the time that I noted in my log - in most
cases they do indicate truthfully the start or end time of an event - but of
course I wasn't at home all day every day so some times are the times I arrived
home and found the event in progress. There are many more entries in the log and
if any of you would like more data please ask.
The Diaries contain October at present and the Graphs of Band 1 (50 MHZ) events for all months - explanations to follow . Please remeber to use "refresh" or "reload" I have had no more time to add more at present - but more will come!!!
I need your help please. I have several Reel to Reel tapes that contain unique
recordings of openings etc. in the last Solar cycle that I wish to transfer to
cassette and also to use on these pages These were made on a Philips 4
track 4 speed tape recorder that has given up the ghost. I have been kindly
loaned 2 recorders that are fine for some of the tapes but I am unable to
replay several other tapes. Is there anybody that has a device of this type
that they can loan, let me steal or charge a reasonable price for???
Please let me know - thanks.
