       I started this list as a purely personal project in 1986, when 50 Mhz became freely available in the UK. I had no idea that so many "First" contacts would take place. This project was done with the sole intention of recording, as it happened, for historical reasons, events on 50 Mhz before memories and interest faded. Initially I composed the list by means of my own firsts , or firsts that I heard occur on the band or by a quick bit of detective work found others. As the list and interest built then so did the response. Until recently I required no proof of contact - it was purely on your reported contacts and the date and time presented. There has unfortunately been some occasions in the past when claims have found to be incorrect and led me to belive that the list was not correct and true. I therefore have introduced another column into the table - the "Confirmed (CFD)" column. If "Yes" then I am totally happy that the claim is absolutely genuine. If not then there may be doubt for the claim, even if it is the "first" The only way to confirm the claim can be to present proof in the form of the QSL, a photostat of the card, or other proof, such as E mail confirmation from the DX station or accepted for DXCC.. For my part I have always tried to obtain confirmation from the DX end to substantiate the claim. I note that some "Firsts" keepers will not entertain claims without such proof as the QSL - I did not feel that I needed to go so far but now feel that it would be best if all claims can be substantiated. I will be checking back through my records to add those that I do have definate proof. If you can confirm your firsts then  please do so  - it would help me immensly. I will take it that if the claim is agreed by another firsts list that that will suffice. Please do not take any offence if you claim is not marked as "yes" - help me by giving the proof. Any claim found to be incorrect will be removed. These are only the contacts that have been reported to me and DO NOT necessarily represent the ACTUAL first LEGAL contact between the Countries - even if it does have "firsts QSO" marked on the card!!

 I am looking to expand the list by means of scans of the cards involved - purely for historical reasons. I will start with some of my own - can you send me scans of your cards - or if not send me the cards(s) by recorded and I will return by same.

    There have been , particularly in the early days of 6 mtrs, a few well meaning but misplaced activities from various countries. Where these have been known to occur BEFORE any legal operation from that Country I have NOT included any contacts. I am attempting to give start dates for legal activities below as I come across them - please assist where you can. It was stated by some of the activists that "verbal permission" was granted and that"nit pickers" would start campaigns concerning"written permits". They believed that verbal permission was good enough. I do not believe that this is to be condoned and is misplaced and forms no part of my  project.

The following have been verified by Amateurs in the respective country.

Only contacts after 02/1990 will be accepted for OE
Only contacts after 08/02/1990 will be accepted for ON
Only contacts after 10/7/1992 will be accepted for EH, EH6, EH8, EH9
Only contacts after 01/1/1990 will be accepted for OZ
YU (pre splitting) was issued on 14/06/1991
S5 (YU3) issued from 26/06/1991 - probably same for 9A (YU2) , Z3 (YU5) and T9 (YU4) - unless you know better.
Germany is a great problem but after contacts with D here is a definitive result for which claims will only be accepted for :- Germany (west only) (DA-DL) was issued on 31/3/1990 at  22:00 utc. and counts as one country. Greater Germany (DA - DM) was formed on 3/10/1990 and therefore will count as one country.
SV. First experimental licence (to SZ2DH) from 3.5.1980. For few months in 1988 (SV1DO & SV0FE). From 25/4/1989 Athens group (SV1). From 17.5.1993 more SV with SV5TS, SV5QR and SV9's.From 26.2.1998 open to all SV's. Please note NO foreign Licences issued - so PLEASE DO NOT WORK  / SV, /SV5, /SV9.
C3 - only Fred C31HK is legal.
Only contacts after 01/03/1988 will be accepted for PA0 (except for G)
5N3/G3GJQ - unfortunately, according to all my sources, there is no proof that this was legal - unless you know different - therefore I entertain other claims for 5N - SEE BELOW
HA. as far as I am aware there has been no legal operation from HA therefore the entry has been deleted. SEE BELOW
Only contacts after 22/5/1987 will be accepted for 9H - go to this page and see documents.
Only contacts after 21/6/1988 will be accepted for OH - (EXCEPT G)
CY9 - I have checked as far as I can with known expeditions to CY9 - none are claiming contact with the UK - therefore I have removed the claim (or lack of!!) - unless you know better. - Now have some proof that It was worked from UK - checking more.

It is with great regret that I have removed several claims from the list. The Amateur concerned was given all reasonable time to produce evidence to support claims. These claims were in fact not agreed with by the DX stations. I have also removed several others which no proof has been given and given the previous I believe are in grave doubt. I have tried to be fair and even on this matter and all I seek is historical accuracy. I cannot allow claims that I do believe to be in doubt - better to be wrong this way that the other.
